There’s something bewitching about the Winter Solstice. That moment when the Earth tips to her extreme from the life-giving sun. Darkness dominates, and daylight is scant and fleeting. The sunrise (Newgrange) and sunset (Stonehenge) have been revered on this day for millennia.

The sunrise Newgrange
and sunset (Stonehenge) have been revered on this day for millennia. Eimear Quinn (music) and Brendan Graham (lyrics) tempt the wonder of winter once more in this magical song, savouring the cover of darkness before the nights shorten and daylight makes her gains once more. Performed by Eimear Quinn Piano by Gavin Murphy Arranged by Sarah Class Mixed by Jonas Westling. Video by Eimear Quinn Co-produced by Joelene Curran & Marlene Curran. Publishing PEER MUSIC UK LYRICS: Shortest day, longest night Druids moon, bleak winter’s light Far on the path to Heaven’s deep, the sun doth rest in winter sleep. Draw to the hearth, kindle the lamp. Hold back the dark, the cold, the damp High tonight the wind will blow Season of storm and swirling snow But we will walk the winter wood underneath the winter moon See silver winter apples, winter berries, winter bloom We will hear the winter wren sing out his winter tune. Winter Solstice, winter wonder, you never, ever come around too soon. To the fields and valleys low from mountain side the cattle go A shelter from the winter wild, a stable for the winter child And we will walk the winter wood underneath the winter moon See silver winter apples, winter berries, winter bloom We will hear the winter wren sing out his winter tune.
